A buffet breakfast at Ivy and Jack (Holiday Inn) was had for a bargain, ~$11 courtesy of a Scoopon deal.
The hot breakfast options and the sweets were good. At its $26 normal price, it’s a pretty expensive brekky. If a plate or two fills you up, better value can definitely be had elsewhere for the price.
At the price I paid however it was well worth it! Bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, coffee (pretty decent stuff too), make-it-yourself fruit juices, yoghurt, sausages, to list a few were all included in the all-you-can-eat buffet. The selection was tasty, standard fare.
The atmosphere at Ivy and Jack is hip and conducive to relaxed, casual dining, and conversation. That alone is a big drawcard for visiting this place. I’d do the buffet brekky because their dinner options aren’t the greatest – I’ve written before on this.
Sometimes the food doesn’t matter so much as the atmosphere. And getting the atmosphere right is what Ivy and Jack did best for this brekky: there was the trendy decor, the two large screen TVs in the background that were tuned to morning shows, and the chatter that came from the venue being well-patroned at 8.30am on a Saturday (presumably attributable to the venue’s ownership by the Holiday Inn hotel).
All in all a very decent experience.
Taste verdict A bargain brekky, with the deal price, and a whole range of options. Great brekky vibe.
